How was the hamburger born?
Did you know that the history of the hamburger - a ground beef patty served between two halves of a bun - dates back more than 130 years?
Although no single person can be officially credited with inventing the hamburger, as many people have claimed to be it's pionners, there is a clear connection to the German city of Hamburg. In the 19th centruy, this famous port city became known for it's beef, sourced from cattle raised in the surrounding region. The meat was typicaly minced, seadoned and shaped into patties before being cooked over an open fire. However, the hamburger as we know and love it today was created and popularised much later.
